I don’t know why, but I’m in such a Jay-Z mood today. This song reminds me of my honey, because he knows all the lyrics and then pretends he’s Jay while rhyming! Hilarious. I love Chrisette Michele on the chorus! I wish you all a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend! “Time dont go back it goes forward, Can’t run from the pain go towards it.”
Being the great girlfriend that I am, I got my honey Watch The Throne tickets for his birthday (I know, I’m pretty awesome)! So until that magical Monday in November (11/14/11), I will do at least one flashback a month for Jay and Kanye. This week is a double flashback with a DB throwback! Betty White was too funny on SNL. I don’t know if it’s funnier to me because my grandmother is about the same age and she may not get all the jokes that we make today. Betty White seems to get them, but then again, I don’t know if someone explain them to her first. My favorite skit is the one below of the NPR and her muffin. Funny stuff! Jay Z was good as always. He did a medley of his top songs and had me with my hand to my mouth like I was performing right beside him. He did Empire State of Mind = minus Alicia Keys, but he had Bridget Kelly which held her own. Jay Z is always having so much fun during his performances that he keeps the energy up. Later in the show, he performed Forever Young with Mr Hudson and dedicated it Betty White. Let me know your thoughts.
Ladies, please tell me I’m not the only one. Please tell me you have discovered the internet goings-on of celebrity stylist June Ambrose. She is filling my twitter home page with my daily shot of couture. Her vlog is my boost through the tough times. These impromptu videos are reality shopping at its finest, complete with non-stop laughter from sales associates, rich women walking through shots and the fabulous June responding to it all in her classy-yet-hilarious way. Just imagine: at a time when I’ve had to forcibly restrain myself from shopping, I have a tour guide – a shopping buddy – through all that is haute in the heart of New York. She prepares me for what’s new so that I can have some level of control over when I am hit by the shopgasm and the (gasp) hauteattack.
Tell me you haven’t nearly fainted at the sight of a shoe, no a boot, more beautiful than you could’ve imagined (tear). I have.
The Ambrose Effect is far reaching. Have you not seen the Stiletto Workout? I now understand that you MUST have beautiful shoes for beautiful calves. It’s symbiotic. Oh, and think of the gorgeous ones. Jay-Z is shining the light on just how sexy it is to be a grown a** man. Mary J. got ‘em telling their mamas that they’re in love with a grown woman. Kim Cattrall put (almost) all the sex in Sex in the City. The list goes on and on. A total image like that is not something you’re just born with. These people have the talent and the charisma, but the total image takes a well developed knowledge and understanding of modern culture and classic style. They say, “behind every great man is an even greater woman”. I say, behind every great look there is a woman with vision. Her name is June.
I have to admit that I’m not an avid Oprah viewer. But when I heard that she was not only interviewing Jay Z for her magazine O, but also planned to have him on her show, I suddenly found myself watching the show Again. I watched her previously this month when she interviewed Whitney.
Oprah Winfrey and Shawn Carter have both endured a very challenging journey to obtain their success. As Oprah puts it, “they both came from poor circumstances.” This is why I am happy to see that Oprah got over her whole not interviewing rappers bit and interviewed Jay Z.
The interview was very entertaining to me and I think that we got to see another side of Jay Z. Having knowledge of his drug dealing days and Hard Knock Life, it’s great to see the media and hip hop mogul speak casually and show his witty sense of humor. To me, he showed a very humble side when he said that he finds himself shocked at times to see the Rocawear sign when he gets off the elevator of his office (I can’t wait to say the same). He has accomplished so much and believes that “its the passion for what you do and finding something true,” that has helped him come this far.
They go on to discuss racism, Rihanna, his businesses, marriage to Beyonce and that fact that Oprah thinks he smells good! The pair agreed to disagree about the use of the N-word and Jay even tried to teach Oprah how to freestyle.
I’m glad these two powerhouses came together and gave us insight on his life. I don’t know if it’s the cologne he wears or just his “swag,” but its clear that Jay Z is in the building.
Jay Z showed what he’s made of on Friday, Sept. 11. He performed to a sold-out crowd at Madison Gardens for his “Answer the Call” concert, which paid tribute to the police officers and firefighters who died responding to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Having seen Jigga perform last year, I was digging the performance even on TV.
The 911 Benefit Concert raised over 1 million dollars for the families & victims of the 911 World Trade Center attacks. Special guest performers included Rihanna, Beyonce, Kanye West, Pharrell, Diddy, John Mayer, Kid Cudi and Mary J. Blige.
The star-studded performances were amazing. Mary J. Blige, the queen of hip hop, performance made me Reminisce of 90′s hip hop, while John Mayer rocked out on his electric guitar making us all want to “get that dirt off your shoulder.” Beyonce dominated the stage with her swagger filled performance proving that she’s a Diva and the list goes on an on.
Jay performed over 30 songs from his repertoire. He had a song for everyone. Going as far back as 1996 to current (not everyone can say that they have 11 albums under their belt). It’s amazing to me that he remembers the lyrics from all of his songs! And not just remember them, but bring the swag that only Jay-Z can deliver.
My fav performance of the night would have to be “Run This Town” featuring Kanye West, Jay Z, and Rihana. The radio doesn’t give this song justice. The energy behind this song made me want to jump to my feet! The entire concert was insane from the sofa, so I can’t imagine what it was like in person.
During the 2 hour show, Jay held a moment of silence and made this touching statement, “They believed they would weaken us. They were sorely mistaken. We stand here tonight even stronger.”
One thing is for sure, The Roc is definately in the building!
What more can I say?
In an effort to bribe motivate people to register to vote, Obama’s offices held a “Last Chance for Change” voter registration rally with Black Brad (Sr. Carter). Wyclef opened and held it down with a number of jams and Bob Marley covers. In the interim between acts, I ran into this guy (basically because he follows me).
Hov took to the stage and it was instantly on. More singles than album cuts, but can this man go back. The energy was crazy, I mean, real-live-energy on stage, proving that though the concert was outside, the Roc was in the building.
